Giant Spiders are Cool

I was over helping my parents pack for their big move to Arkansas. Now why they are moving to Arkansas could possibly fill a novel the size of War and Peace, but I am not here to write about that. I am here to write about a giant spider that we found in the garage while moving some stuff. Now some people who read this might be from down south where this size spider is commonplace, but not up here in Michigan. This has to be the largest spider I have ever seen here. I don;w know what kind of spider it is, so if anyone out there does, let me know. Here is the pic:

Pretty Cool...huh??
Yup, I am definitely male.

Geez, JD! That is one HECK of a spider! He looks like he could pick up that quarter and hurl it at you. Yes, you are definitely a boy!

Your parents are moving to Arkansas? That's so...south! Clearly you need to tell me the story some time.

I just returned from a trip to Arkansas this weekend and saw several spiders similar to the one in your pic on a rock wall next to a river. They were quite creepy and I nearly put my hands on them several times by accident. However, among these giant spiders was an enormous black/grey spider with a leg span about the size of my hand. I'm currently searching the internet trying to figure out what kind of spider that was. It was the biggest spider I have ever seen outdoors.
